For this project, I have compiled a photography portfolio focusing on understanding the manual camera settings and adjusting them to gain full control over det finished photo. It made me experiment with the shutter speed, aperture, and ISO to achieve specific effects, resulting in a complete portfolio of 15 uneditet photos.

This photo is taken with an aperture that allowed me to focus on the lady in the restaurant, while the outside window and background would be blurry. Again the ISO was set super high by mistake, and I chose a faster shutter speed to compensate for it.

For this photo I wanted most of the image to be in focus, so I chose a higher aperture. Again, the ISO was mistakenly set super high, which is why I had to compensate with a super fast shutter speed to not get an over exposed image.

I chose a low aperture to have the focus on the subject, and making the background blurry to amplify the soft feeling of the image. Same mistake here with having the ISO at 1600 in regular day-light, hence the high shutter-speed to not have a super exposed photo.

For this photo I had to use a tripod to be able to get a clear view of the label on the bottle. I used a low shutter speed to get more light in, while the aperture was higher to keep the colors black. I also tried to keep the ISO low, to try and leave as much noise away as possible. I wanted the photo to resemble the appearance of an advertisement for perfume bottles, but it was a lot harder than it looked.

To get this photo right, I needed a fast shutter speed to freeze the motion of the flour being sifted. Because of this, I had to use a low aperture and a high ISO to capture as much light as possible in to the camera. The high ISO made the photo have a lot more noise in it then I would have liked, but because of the fast shutter speed, this was inevitable. I still think it turned out fine.

For this photo I used a very slow shutter speed to be able to make the light-heart. I also wanted the photo to be very dark and moody, which is why the aperture is as high as it is, as well as the ISO is kept kind of low.

To get this photo, I chose an aperture that would get the entire image in focus, and a shutter speed that would make sure there were no blur. The ISO is set a bit higher than ”regular day-time” images, to compensate for the higher aperture and faster shutter speed.

To create this photo I had my subject sit extremely still while I used the flashlight on my phone to create the swirl around her head. My camera is on a tripod, and I used a timer to be able to run up to her and make the swirls. The shutter speed is set at 2 seconds to get the light in the photo. I used purple LEDs to get the purple, fantasy look. I also wanted the rest of the photo to be kind of dark while still being able to see her face, which is why the aperture is so high and the ISO is set at 400.

There was so much fog this day, which made the background completely white, and it made a very eary photo with the crows. The ISO is set high to over expose the subject a tiny bit, while the shutter speed is fast to make sure there were no blur, as well as it made the photo more moody.

For this photo I needed the aperture to be low to be able to see the subject in front of the very white sky. The shutter speed is fast to make sure there was no blur in the image, and the ISO was to get even more light on the subject, to really make her stand out from the background. This made the image a bit over exposed, and the sky turned completely white, but I think that made it better.

I chose a more narrow aperture to maintain balance between the sharpness of the subject, and the blur of the background, ensuring that the focus remained on the subject. The shutter speed was to prevent motion blur, while keeping the natural softness of the scene. And the low ISO was to retain image quality.

To get this photo I used a higher aperture to make everything in focus. I made the error of not realizing that the ISO was set so high from photos taken from the day before, which is why the shutter speed is extremely high to compensate for it, making sure that the photo was not over exposed.

It was a really foggy day, which made this ladder stand out more then usual. I used a fast shutter speed to prevent any blur in the image, and an ISO of 400 to kind of over expose the color of the ladder to make it stand out even more.

What I have learned
This project has taught me so much, and I feel like I understood the different camera settings and compositions to look out for while taking photos, instead of relying so much on post-editing. It made me really think while taking the photos, on how I could position myself and what settings to use to get the best or preferred results.
